Teacher to Manager?

An odd confluence of events occurred recently to cause me to go from teaching English one day to managing the entire English school the next. Yes that’s right, I’ve been promoted (?) to Manager two days before the next session begins. The previous Manager had a family emergency causing her to leave the country and be absent from the job for 2 weeks. The owner has had some previous trouble leaving him without a replacement for this Manager, and at the last minute, I was tossed into the position.
The catch was that it was to be temporary and that there was a chance that I would return to teaching come April (the beginning of next session). However, the option to remain in the position wasn’t ruled out and as the days go by appears to be a much more likely scenario. If your eyebrows are furrowed in confusion, you’re on the right page. It’s all a bit odd, but to be honest with you, I’m enjoying the opportunity to learn more about the ins and outs of the business.
As the Manager, I’m getting a hands-on course in Management and Human Resources. Oh yeah, our previous Manager was also the Head of Human Resources for three schools (not just mine). On my last day of teaching during my lunch break, I hired two more teachers and rejected one potential applicant. In the last week, I’ve hired 5 people, rejected several, and fired one guy I’ve never met. Yes, I am still a bit confused by the speed with which all of this happening as well, but I’m not complaining either.
What can you do? Smile, work hard, and learn as much as you can.

Yes! Smile, work hard and learn as much as possible. Good stuff Shawn. As hard as you tried to make it seem like this was all mere coincidence, we all know you work really hard, made an impression and it’s no surprise that any of this has happened.
